CBS has revealed the 21-player cast for 'Survivor' season 51, which premieres Sept. 23 and marks the start of the franchise's newly designated 'Open Era.'
Host Jeff Probst explained the concept during the 'Survivor' 50 finale, stating: "Anything that's ever happened on Survivor can happen again — at any time, in any order, without warning." That means, unlike the previous 50 seasons, players can no longer rely on studying past twists, advantages or game mechanics to anticipate what's coming, since none of them are off the table for season 51.
The newly announced cast ranges in age from 24 to 49 and includes a wide mix of professions, among them a professional wrestler, a voice actress, a federal prosecutor, a baseball executive and a sociology professor.
With the rules of engagement effectively rewritten, season 51 sets up a competition where contestants must prepare for the full history of 'Survivor' twists rather than a fixed set of expectations. The season begins airing on CBS on Sept. 23.
