Brandi Carlile Covers Theme for Ted Lasso's Season 4 Finale

Brandi Carlile — Brandi Carlile Covers Theme for Ted Lasso's Season 4 Finale

The 10th and final episode of Ted Lasso's fourth season premiered Wednesday, Oct. 7, on Apple TV, opening with an unexpected musical twist: a new rendition of the show's theme song performed by Brandi Carlile. The track was originally co-written and performed by Mumford & Sons' Marcus Mumford alongside composer Tom Howe, and Carlile's version marks a notable shift for a season centered on Jason Sudeikis' Ted Lasso taking the reins of an all-women soccer team.

The show had technically wrapped up once before, concluding its third season in 2023 with what was described as a lackluster but still touching finale. But Apple TV revived the series in early 2025, announcing the comeback without disclosing plot or cast details at the time. Sudeikis returned for the new season alongside Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Juno Temple, Hannah Waddingham, and Jeremy Swift.

The connection to Carlile dates back to 2021, when Sudeikis hosted Saturday Night Live shortly after Season Two concluded, with Carlile appearing as the episode's musical guest. That pairing ultimately laid the groundwork for her reimagined theme song.

Hunt recalled the moment Sudeikis played him the track for the first time as a surprise. "He said, 'I got something to play for you guys,' and he played me the full-length version of Brandi's new version of the theme," Hunt told Variety. "I just bawled, absolutely bawled."

Hunt is now hoping fans get to hear more than what aired. "I hope that Apple puts out the whole recording because the 30-second snippet we get for the credits is one thing, but the full version is just staggering," he said. "It's her and the whole band and everybody is bringing their 'A' game for it. It's really, really powerful."
