Legally Blonde fans finally have a date to mark on their calendars. After months of anticipation, Prime Video has officially confirmed when its upcoming prequel series Elle will arrive — and has also unveiled the first images from the show.
Set decades before Elle Woods steps onto the Harvard campus, the new series explores the teenage years of the iconic character during the 1990s. The story follows a younger Elle as she navigates high school, friendships and first ambitions, offering a fresh look at how the confident law student we know was shaped long before her legal career began.
The series is scheduled to premiere on 1 July, bringing the beloved franchise back to screens nearly 25 years after the original film became a cultural phenomenon.
Rising star Lexi Minetree takes on the role of young Elle Woods, and early images show her fully embracing the character’s signature style — from vibrant pink outfits to the unmistakable confidence that defined the original heroine.
Behind the scenes, the project is led by creator Laura Kittrell, with Caroline Dries serving as co-showrunner. The supporting cast includes June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott, while original film star Reese Witherspoon returns to the franchise as an executive producer.
Witherspoon described the project as deeply personal, saying that revisiting Elle’s early life has been one of the most rewarding experiences of her career. She added that the series will highlight themes of kindness, self-belief and staying true to oneself — values that helped make the character a lasting pop culture icon.
The excitement around the show is already strong enough that Prime Video has given the series an early vote of confidence by approving a second season ahead of its debut.
Amazon MGM Studios’ television chief Peter Friedlander said the series blends the optimism and charm of the original films with a modern coming-of-age story designed to appeal to both longtime fans and a new generation of viewers.
With its mix of nostalgia and fresh storytelling, Elle is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about TV releases of the summer.
Elle premieres on Prime Video on 1 July.
