Dakota Fanning is returning to the small screen with a role that places her at the center of a global conspiracy. Apple TV+ has officially greenlit a new, currently untitled thriller series starring and executive produced by the acclaimed actor, marking another major collaboration between the streamer and prestige television creators.
Created by Homeland alum Alex Cary, the series follows an undercover agent working for the U.S. Department of the Treasury who is embedded deep within a massive international conglomerate. What begins as a covert mission soon becomes far more complicated, as her assignment pulls her into a shadowy world where political influence, financial corruption, and organized crime intersect on a global scale.
As the story unfolds, Fanning’s character finds herself torn between loyalty to her mission and an unexpected emotional connection. The moral tension intensifies when she begins to question whether her primary target—the heir to the empire she is investigating—is truly the villain she was sent to expose, or someone capable of genuine goodness. The resulting internal conflict threatens not only her cover, but everything she believes in.
The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television under Cary’s overall deal with the studio, with Cary also serving as showrunner and executive producer through his FLW Productions banner. Julie Gardner executive produces for Bad Wolf America, while Dakota Fanning joins the production team alongside Elle Fanning and Brittany Kahan Ward through Lewellen Pictures. Acclaimed director Kari Skogland is attached to helm the project and also serves as executive producer.
Fanning continues her recent streak of high-profile television work. She was most recently seen opposite Sarah Snook in the Peacock limited series All Her Fault, which quickly became one of the platform’s most talked-about releases. In 2024, she led two major Netflix projects, Ripley and The Perfect Couple, further cementing her reputation as a go-to performer for prestige thrillers. In addition to starring roles, she remains actively involved behind the scenes as a producer, including on the upcoming Apple TV+ series Margo’s Got Money Troubles.
With its blend of espionage, emotional complexity, and global stakes, the new Apple TV+ thriller is shaping up to be one of the platform’s most intriguing upcoming dramas. While a title and release date have yet to be revealed, the project already signals a bold addition to Apple’s growing slate of high-end original series.
