John Morgan — John Morgan Scores First No. 1 With 'Kid Myself'

John Morgan has landed his first No. 1 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart, as "Kid Myself" climbs two spots in its 66th week to top the list dated Oct. 17. The song drew 31.3 million audience impressions, up 12% from the previous tracking period of Oct. 2-8, according to Luminate.

The 66-week journey to the summit is the second-longest in the chart's 36-year history, trailing only Justin Moore's "Time's Ticking," which took 67 weeks to reach No. 1 across 2025 and 2026. The slow climbs reflect a broader trend on the format: songs averaged 12 weeks to reach No. 1 in the 1990s, 19 weeks in the 2000s, 24 weeks in the 2010s, and 32 weeks so far in the 2020s. The longest treks to the top have stretched similarly, from a high of 27 weeks in the '90s to 41 in the 2000s, 51 in the 2010s and 67 this decade.

"Kid Myself," written by Morgan alongside Tyler Hubbard and Jordan Schmidt, marks Morgan's second entry on Country Airplay, following "Friends Like That" featuring Jason Aldean, which peaked at No. 2 in April 2025. Morgan grew up playing bluegrass festivals with his family in Sylva, N.C., before building a career in Nashville as a songwriter. He has cowritten eight Country Airplay entries recorded by Aldean, including the No. 1 hits "If I Didn't Love You" (with Carrie Underwood) and "Trouble with a Heartbreak." His debut album, Carolina Blue, arrived last year.

Elsewhere on the chart, Luke Combs notches his 28th Country Airplay top 10 as "Rethink Some Things" rises from No. 11 to No. 10, pulling in 19.2 million impressions, up 13%. His earlier four-week chart-topper, "Be By You" — his 21st No. 1 — holds steady in the top tier at No. 7. Combs now holds the record for the most top 10s among all acts since his first appearance in the chart region in April 2017.

Miranda Lambert and Ella Langley also make noise this week, debuting at No. 31 with "Snakeskin Boots," which drew 4.4 million in first-week reach. The track opens Lambert's new album, Crisco, and was cowritten by Lambert, Jesse Frasure, Natalie Hemby and Brendan McLoughlin — Lambert's husband, who earns his first Billboard chart credit with the song. Lambert said she wrote the track "with Ella in mind."
