Gerard Way — Gerard Way Teases New My Chemical Romance Album

Gerard Way told fans at My Chemical Romance's Saturday concert in San Antonio's Alamodome that the band hopes to record a new album, which would be its first full-length release in more than 16 years.

"We should probably make more songs. [The Foundations of Decay] was really awesome when we kept doing it," Way told the crowd. "And then you know, stuff happens, life happens. But, just know that, we kind of always wanted to make another record, so we hope to. Because you guys, honestly, kept us alive for so long that you guys deserve another record."

A fan account, @Arod_a_, captured part of the moment on X on September 13, 2026, quoting Way as saying, "we've always wanted to make another record [...] you guys kept us alive so long, you guys deserve another record [...]"

My Chemical Romance's last album was 2010's Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, released before the band broke up for roughly five years during the mid-2010s. Since reuniting in 2019 for a string of tours, the group has released just one new song, 2022's "The Foundations of Decay."

The band has spent the past year touring in celebration of the 20th anniversary of its 2006 album The Black Parade. Saturday's Alamodome show marked the official close of the North American leg of the Long Live the Black Parade Tour.

My Chemical Romance isn't done touring yet, however. The band is set to play festival dates at Louisville's Louder Than Life and Sacramento's Aftershock before beginning a five-night residency at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, which wraps up on Halloween, October 31. From there, the group will head out on a monthlong tour of southeast Asia running through late November. Only after that leg concludes, according to Way, does the band hope to finally get into the studio to start work on the new record.
