Ella Langley, 27, gave a blunt response to a fan who asked her out in public outside her Knoxville, Tennessee, show on Thursday, Sept. 24, and the moment has since divided viewers online.
The fan, a sports-centric TikTok creator known as Tiki, attempted to ask Langley out, then reacted to her rejection by crossing his arms, looking into the camera and saying, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."
The exchange drew mixed reactions in the comments. One person wrote, "This rubbed me the wrong way. And I like her," while another asked, "Literally what is her problem?" A third commenter suggested, "She could have laughed and said no in a whole different way."
Langley, who is reportedly dating fellow country singer Tucker Wetmore, later addressed the criticism in a comment that has since been deleted. According to TMZ, she wrote, "It was meant to come off as dark humor. You said that and it got quiet and I got nervous."
The incident came in the same week that Langley's "Choosin' Texas" made chart history. The song notched a 23rd non-consecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, breaking the record for most weeks at No. 1 and dethroning Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You." The track had debuted in the top 40 of the Hot 100 at No. 39 back in November before its extended run atop the chart.
Langley marked the milestone with an emotional video posted to Instagram. "I'm genuinely trying to find the words to help explain what's going on in my brain today," she said. "Thank you so much for loving this song, for listening to it… I'm running out of hyperboles to describe how I feel." She continued, "Just thank you so much, it's changing my life, it's changing the lives of the writers of this song. It's changing the lives of my family and it is truly growing an atmosphere for something I'm gonna be able to do the rest of my life."
