Paramount Pictures has scheduled director Harry Bradbeer's feature adaptation of "One Italian Summer" for theatrical release on May 12, 2028, positioning the film for Mother's Day weekend audiences. Brie Larson stars in the project and serves as an executive producer, bringing to the screen author Rebecca Serle's New York Times best-selling novel, which was first published in 2022.
The story unfolds along Italy's Amalfi Coast and follows a young woman who, after enduring a devastating loss, comes to reconnect with her mother in a new light. Larson takes on the role of Katy Silver.
The film comes from Temple Hill Entertainment, with Larson and Serle serving as executive producers alongside David Stone of TFC Productions. Paramount's chosen release date will also see New Line debut the next installment in the "Final Destination" franchise.
Larson's recent and upcoming work spans multiple genres. She has starred in "Lessons in Chemistry," played Captain Marvel within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and lent her voice to a role in this year's "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie." She is next set to lead director JT Mollner's horror film "Skeletons," arriving in theaters next summer from Sony, with additional projects including FX's "Cry Wolf" and Amazon MGM Studios' "Close Personal Friends" also on the horizon.
Bradbeer, directing "One Italian Summer," previously helmed "Enola Holmes" and its 2022 sequel, and has worked on the series "Fleabag," "Killing Eve" and "Spider-Noir." He is currently in postproduction on Netflix's "A Matter of Time," starring Ben Stiller and Nicholas Galitzine, and is attached to direct a planned adaptation of the thriller novel "Eight Perfect Murders."
