AMC's Kips Bay 15 theater, the chain's second-largest multiplex in Manhattan, is set to close at the end of 2026, Variety reports.
An AMC spokesperson confirmed the closure, stating: "We expect that AMC Kips Bay 15 will continue operating until the end of 2026, at which time the theatre will close following the property owner's decision to exercise its contractual right to terminate the theatre's lease before its scheduled expiration."
The 15-screen location has long been a favorite among locals for offering a broader slate of films along with a towering Imax screen. It has also served as a quieter alternative to AMC's Empire 25 near Times Square and the 34th Street 14 location outside Madison Square Garden.
Once Kips Bay 15 shuts its doors, AMC's remaining Manhattan locations will include the 19th Street 6, Village 7, Lincoln Square 13, Orpheum 7, 84th Street 6 and Magic Johnson Harlem 9.
In its statement, AMC reflected on the theater's history: "Since its opening in 1999, the theatre has been an important part of the Kips Bay community and surrounding neighborhoods, providing guests with a place to enjoy the magic of the movies together. AMC took over operations of AMC Kips Bay 15 in 2006, and we are immensely grateful to our guests for their loyalty and support throughout the years."
The company noted that a specific closure date has not yet been set. "Details are still being finalized, and a formal closure date will be announced in the coming months. At this time, we have no additional information to share," the statement continued.
