Amazon MGM Studios has boarded Hivemind, a killer-wasp thriller directed by Irish filmmaker Ciarán Foy, with plans to stream the film internationally on Prime Video. The project centers on the evolution of a new breed of killer wasps and the small-town authorities who join forces to stop a deadly global outbreak.
Badlands acquired the spec script from Peter Gaffney, whose previous credits include Yeti and Don't Go in the Water, last year. Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Diarmaid McGrath are producing for Thunder Road, alongside Scott Strauss for Badlands, Macdara Kelleher and John Keville for Wild Atlantic Pictures, and Adam Rodin and Gaffney. Renegade Capital is backing the project, with Jon Shiffman and Andrew Schwartzberg serving as executive producers. CAA Media Finance and Verve are handling domestic sales.
One of the film's leads, Weaving, is having a major year, having landed the role of Emma Frost in Marvel's upcoming X-Men movie. Weaving also recently reprised a role in Searchlight's Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, appeared in IFC's Over Your Dead Body from Jorma Taccone — which won the Audience Award at SXSW — and starred in Magnolia's Carolina Caroline from Adam Carter Rehmeier. Weaving is repped by CAA, Todd Diener at 111 Media, and PJ Shapiro at Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
Co-lead Braun, known for playing Cousin Greg on HBO's Succession and earning three Emmy nominations for the role, most recently appeared in Amazon MGM's comedy The Sheep Detectives, which grossed over $132 million worldwide. Braun will next appear in The Entertainment System Is Down from multiple Palme d'Or winner Ruben Östlund, and is repped by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Barry Littman at Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
Foy's debut feature, the psychological horror film Citadel, premiered at SXSW and won the festival's Midnighter Audience Award. He has since directed Blumhouse's Sinister 2 and the Netflix/Intrepid Pictures horror film Eli, as well as episodes of Netflix's The Haunting of Bly Manor and Sweet Tooth. He is repped by Verve, Independent Talent Group in the UK, and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
Gaffney is repped by Verve, Rodin, and Rob Goodman at McKuin Frankel, while Thunder Road is repped by CAA.
