After a decade-long journey in the 18th century world of Outlander, Sam Heughan is stepping into the modern era with his next major TV role. The Scottish actor has joined the cast of Embassy, an intense six-part geopolitical thriller series, starring alongside Anna Kendrick and J.K. Simmons.
Set to begin production in London and Cologne next month, Embassy is produced by AGC Television in collaboration with Ascendant Fox and Turbine Studios. The series follows Layla (Kendrick), a resourceful American diplomat who must make an impossible choice when armed mercenaries invade the U.S. Embassy in London. She faces a critical decision: protect the ambassador (Simmons) or follow orders to secure a high-value asset. In these tense hours, she relies on her instincts—and the reluctant assistance of her ex-fiancé, British SAS soldier Connor Wright (Heughan).
The show is created and written by Rom Lotan, with John Strickland (Line of Duty, Bodyguard) directing four episodes, and Christian Alvart (Case 39, Dogs of Berlin) directing the remaining two. Lotan, Strickland, and a team of executive producers from AGC, Ascendant Fox, and Turbine will oversee the project. AGC Television will handle international financing and distribution, though a U.S. broadcaster or streaming platform has yet to be announced.
Heughan is no stranger to high-stakes drama. He recently appeared in Love Again alongside Priyanka Chopra and Celine Dion, and in The Spy Who Dumped Me with Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon. His stage work includes a commanding performance as Macbeth at the Royal Shakespeare Company. With the final season of Outlander set to premiere this March on Starz, fans are eager to see Heughan take on a thrilling contemporary role.
Christian Alvart brings a reputation for gripping suspense, known for projects like Pandorum, Dogs of Berlin, and the Netflix adaptation Cut Off. Together with Lotan, Strickland, and a powerhouse cast, Embassy promises a tense, adrenaline-fueled story that blends action, espionage, and personal drama.
