Zayn Malik Stuns Fans with Surprise Unreleased Songs at Las Vegas Residency Debut

Former One Direction star Zayn Malik has officially entered a new chapter of his career — and he chose Las Vegas as the place to begin it.

On Tuesday night, the 33-year-old singer opened the first of seven scheduled residency shows at Dolby Live at Park MGM, delivering an 80-minute set that blended familiar favorites, deep cuts and several songs fans had never heard before.

Stepping onto the stage in a blue military-style jacket adorned with gold epaulettes, Malik wasted no time setting the tone of the evening. He kicked off the night with “She” from his 2016 debut album Mind of Mine, immediately drawing loud reactions from the packed crowd.

Early in the performance, Malik hinted that new music is on the way.

“I’ve been spending time in the studio lately,” he told the audience. “There’s a new record coming soon, and tonight you’re going to hear a few songs you’ve never heard before.”

That promise quickly became reality.

As the show unfolded, Malik slowed the pace and leaned into what he described as the more “emotional” side of the night, performing fan favorites like “Scripted” and “Lied To,” while lyrics and minimalist visuals appeared across the massive screens behind him.

During an intimate rendition of “It’s You,” the lighting shifted to a single spotlight, while soft green visuals — reminiscent of the Northern Lights — filled the background. Fans responded by raising their phone flashlights, creating a spontaneous moment that drew visible emotion from the singer.

At one point, Malik paused and reflected on the significance of the night.

“I honestly don’t know how I’m here,” he said. “It still feels a little bit like a dream.”

Unlike many Las Vegas residency productions known for elaborate staging, Malik opted for a simpler approach. Subtle graphics, restrained lighting and a tight eight-member all-female band kept the focus squarely on the music.

The biggest surprise of the evening came midway through the set.

Malik debuted four previously unreleased tracks — “Used to the Blues,” “Die For Me,” “Fatal” and “Take Turns” — giving fans an early taste of what appears to be his next musical era. He also performed “Drunk” from Mind of Mine live for the first time, joking, “I said I’d sing songs I’ve never performed before — I didn’t say you hadn’t heard them.”

The performance came with an added challenge.

Between songs, Malik revealed that he had been battling a sinus infection for nearly two weeks, often pausing to sip tea to protect his voice.

“My voice is a bit dry tonight,” he admitted. “Thank you so much for being patient with me.”

Despite the illness, the singer delivered a controlled and confident performance that drew strong reactions from fans and critics alike.

Malik’s residency also marks a milestone moment in One Direction history. While rumors about Harry Styles performing in Las Vegas have circulated for years, Malik is the first member of the former boy band to secure a full residency on the Strip.

The shows arrive less than two years after the release of his fourth studio album, Room Under the Stairs, and follow his first-ever solo tour, parts of which were rescheduled after the death of former bandmate Liam Payne in October 2024.

Zayn Malik will perform six more residency dates at Dolby Live in the coming weeks, and if opening night is any indication, fans can expect more surprises — and more new music — before the run comes to an end.
