FX's 'Adults' Season 2 Streaming Up 40% Over Season 1

FX's comedy series 'Adults' is posting significant audience gains in its second season, with streaming viewing up 40 percent compared to the same window during season one, according to Disney's internal streaming data. The eight-episode second season premiered Aug. 27, and the 40 percent increase reflects the first 12 days of availability measured against the equivalent period for season one, which aired in May and June 2025.

Much of that growth is coming from overseas audiences. Viewing outside the United States has doubled compared to season one, per the same internal figures. Disney did not immediately have baseline numbers for season one's international viewing available for comparison. The show streams internationally on Disney+, while both seasons have premiered as full binge releases on Hulu in the U.S. Season one also aired two episodes per week on FX, while season two is airing on FXX in that same twice-weekly format.

A prequel episode titled 'Marathon Day,' which premiered July 31, also contributed to the momentum by boosting streaming of the show's first season in the four weeks leading up to the season two premiere. Series creator Ben Kronengold explained the thinking behind the special episode to The Hollywood Reporter: "FX came to us and said, how should we welcome viewers back, do you have any ideas for something big and out of the box? Since we started the series by dropping people into the middle of this friend group, we figured we should do an origin story. It's also a way to bring in new audiences who weren't there last year when the show came out."

Both FX and Kronengold and co-creator Rebecca Shaw have acknowledged that season one's audience was not very large to begin with. Still, the show's rising numbers stand out against a broader pattern of second-season viewership declines across the industry.

'Adults' is produced by FX Productions and centers on a group of friends sharing a house in Queens. The cast includes Malik Elassal, Lucy Freyer, Jack Innanen, Amita Rao and Owen Thiele. Kronengold and Shaw serve as showrunners and executive produce alongside Nick Kroll, Sarah Naftalis, Jonathan Krisel, Alicia Van Couvering and Rob Rosell.
